Financial adviser urges pensioners to apply for overlooked disability benefit

Money expert Martin Lewis has urged pensioners to claim a benefit that many are missing out on. The benefit is called Attendance Allowance, and it helps people with disabilities or health conditions pay for care. Lewis made his appeal across several news outlets in the past few days.

Attendance Allowance is not means-tested, so your income and savings do not affect whether you can get it. It is paid at two rates: £76.70 per week or £114.60 per week. At the higher rate, that is nearly £6,000 a year.

Many pensioners who are eligible have never applied, often because they did not know the benefit existed. Lewis wants to change that by encouraging more people to check if they qualify.
