Fifa president faces pressure after World Cup privatization plan collapses

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing serious pressure after a plan to sell shares in the World Cup to private investors fell apart. Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to Infantino, resigned following the collapse of the deal. FIFA's chief operating officer said the organisation had been misled about the project. Some football associations in North and Central America have considered withdrawing their support for Infantino, as several European nations already have. Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and has been reelected twice. He has said he wants to run again in 2027. Former FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce believes Infantino still has enough support from national associations to win another term.
