Ferry sinks between Vanuatu islands with dozens missing

A ferry has sunk in rough seas near Vanuatu, killing at least one person and leaving more than 30 missing. The MV Matui, operated by Tui Shipping Agency, went down on Friday while travelling between the islands of Ambae and Santo. More than 40 people were on board when bad weather struck. A crew member managed to swim to shore and raise the alarm, which allowed rescue teams to begin searching the water. So far, one death has been confirmed. Rescuers have moved their search to the southeast coast, because strong currents may have carried survivors in that direction. Vanuatu is a South Pacific island nation where inter-island ferries are a common way to travel.
