Father stops gunman at Oregon elementary school shooting

A father with a gun stopped a school shooting in Bend, Oregon, on October 15, 2026. Kaylub Giamanco, 36, was driving past Silver Rail Elementary School when he saw a 16-year-old gunman firing outside. He watched the gunman throw a weapon over a fence, then entered the school. Giamanco crawled along the floor toward the sound of gunfire while children were crying for help. He found the gunman fighting with a teacher in a classroom and shot him several times. Three students and a teacher had already been killed. Giamanco is a military veteran and has two daughters who attended the school. He spoke publicly about the incident to Oregon Public Broadcasting about a week after the shooting.
