Explosive drone discovered near Ukrainian cargo plane at German airport

German police found an explosive drone on the runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport late on July 28. The drone was sitting between two Ukrainian cargo planes, one of which was carrying military ammunition from France.

Airport staff spotted the device at around 23:42. The drone had been there for several hours, and the airport's security sensors had not detected it. It was carrying high-grade military explosives and a detonator.

Police used a robot to safely remove the device. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the detonator appeared to be damaged, which stopped the drone from exploding.
