Dublin MetroLink project estimated to cost up to 19 billion euros

Senior Irish government figures have said the Dublin MetroLink project could cost up to €19 billion. The planned rail line will run 19 kilometres from Swords in north Dublin to Charlemont on the south side. Transport sector sources have suggested a cost range of between €15 billion and over €18 billion. The government has already spent more than €725 million on the project. Officials are currently reviewing the business case before asking the government to approve moving to the construction tender phase. Contract values from Transport Infrastructure Ireland already total above €17.5 billion, though these are maximum figures that are expected to fall through competitive bidding. Further costs will be added as more supplier contracts are advertised during construction.
