Democratic leader meets privately with Trump adviser Kushner

Hakeem Jeffries, the top Democrat in the House, met privately with Jared Kushner in New York City in recent weeks. Kushner is President Trump's son-in-law and an outside adviser. A mutual friend arranged the meeting. The two men talked about several topics, including housing, immigration, and the cost of living. Kushner suggested that Jeffries should meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. Neither man has spoken publicly about the meeting. Jeffries has led House Democrats since January 2023 and could become Speaker if his party wins control of the House. The meeting happened while both parties were actively campaigning for seats in Congress.
