Counterterrorism police take over investigation into former MP's death

Counterterrorism police have taken over the murder investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative minister and Reform UK politician. Her body was found at her home in Devon on Thursday. A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder. Police later re-arrested him on suspicion of terrorism-related offences after new evidence emerged. CCTV footage showed the suspect in Rotherham on Wednesday morning, carrying a long object in his pocket and getting into a red vehicle. Rotherham is about 270 miles from Devon. The suspect was not previously known to Prevent, the government's counter-extremism programme. Police are investigating several possible motives for the attack.
