Conservative activist Charlie Kirk shot dead at Utah university campus event

Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed at a public event in 2025. He was speaking to around 3,000 people at Utah Valley University in the United States when a gunman fired from a nearby rooftop.

Kirk's family has filed a legal claim against the university and several officials. They say the university did not provide proper security for the event. Only six officers were present at the outdoor gathering. The family also says they had asked for officers to watch the surrounding rooftops, but this did not happen.

The university has said it will carry out an independent review of the shooting. It added that it handles legal matters through its normal processes.
