Companies increase office attendance requirements as hybrid work becomes standard practice

More companies are now requiring staff to work from the office at least part of the week. By 2024, three quarters of employees who were not fully remote said their employer expected some in-person attendance, compared to 63 percent the year before. Most companies have chosen a hybrid approach, where workers split their time between home and the office. Fewer than five percent require a full five-day week on site.

Instagram announced in December 2025 that its American employees with assigned desks would need to come in five days a week from February 2026. Revolut also confirmed that interns and graduates joining in 2027 must attend the office at least three days per week.

Not everyone is happy with these changes. Three quarters of HR managers said keeping employees who prefer remote work has been a serious problem.
