Christopher Nolan's Odyssey opens with 264 million dollars globally

Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey opened in cinemas worldwide last weekend, earning $264.1 million in total. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the hero of the ancient Greek poem. In the United States alone, it made $124.5 million. International audiences added another $139.6 million. This is the biggest global opening of Nolan's career, beating The Dark Knight Rises, which opened to $249 million in 2012. Critics have responded very positively, giving the film a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences also rated it highly with an "A" CinemaScore. The film cost $250 million to make, so it will need to earn much more before it becomes profitable. Nolan's previous film, Oppenheimer, eventually grossed $975 million worldwide.
