Chinese worker rescued from Nepal hydropower tunnel after floods

Rescuers in Nepal pulled a Chinese worker out of a flooded tunnel on Saturday, about ten days after severe flooding hit the region. The man, Lu Haitao, was found 225 metres inside a tunnel at a hydropower project. A team of Nepali soldiers and South Korean disaster specialists carried out the rescue. He was then taken by helicopter for a medical check. The day before, two Nepalese workers had been rescued from the same tunnel. On Saturday, a 64-year-old Nepali woman was also pulled from the ruins of her home in Nuwakot district. The flooding began on August 26, when a glacier in the Himalayas collapsed. More than 1,300 people have died, and thousands are still missing.
