Chelsea completes record British transfer for Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have signed Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117 million, making him the most expensive British player ever transferred. The 23-year-old England international has agreed a six-year contract with the London club. Rogers completed his medical on Monday after the two clubs agreed the fee. The previous British record was £116 million, paid by Manchester City for Elliot Anderson. Arsenal had also wanted to sign Rogers, but they did not offer enough money. Chelsea's new manager, Xabi Alonso, was important in persuading Rogers to move. The deal was agreed between the owners of both clubs. Middlesbrough, Rogers's former club, will receive around £20 million because of a sell-on agreement made when he left them earlier in his career.
