Charity shop manager reveals best times to find bargains and quality items

A charity shop manager has shared practical advice on how to get the best deals when shopping at second-hand stores. Amy Lorenz, who manages an Essex & Herts Air Ambulance shop, told reporters that Saturday afternoons are the ideal time to visit her store, because old items are cleared out on Friday evenings and fresh stock appears on shelves the following morning.

Lorenz pointed out that different shops follow different restocking schedules, so shoppers should ask local staff when new donations arrive. She also noted that post-Christmas and spring are the busiest periods for donations. Contrary to what many people expect, stock comes from a wide range of donors, including young, fashionable people and working professionals. Lorenz advised customers to browse every section of the shop, as layouts change regularly, and to visit repeatedly, since finding specific items takes patience.
