Cambridge professor resigns after university launches misconduct investigation

Jason Arday, a sociology professor at Cambridge University, resigned on Wednesday after the university said it would investigate his qualifications and academic appointments.

Cambridge had defended Arday on Sunday, but changed its position three days later. The university said it had received complaints about academic misconduct and was handling them through its formal processes.

Arday's doctoral thesis, awarded in 2015, had faced plagiarism accusations, but the university that awarded it did not uphold those charges. Questions were also raised about other claims he had made. He admitted making mistakes and said he should be held accountable, but denied being a liar.
