Cambridge professor Jason Arday found dead in London

Jason Arday, a professor at the University of Cambridge, was found dead at a property in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon. He was 41 years old. Police were called to the address after 3 p.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene. Officers said the death was unexpected but not suspicious, and they will prepare a report for the coroner.

Arday had resigned from Cambridge the week before. He was the university's youngest ever Black professor, appointed in 2023 to teach sociology of education. In recent weeks, he faced accusations that he had copied parts of his PhD thesis and overstated some of his achievements. He denied plagiarism but admitted there were errors in his work. He said the public criticism had been extremely difficult to bear.
