Bus crashes into ravine on Cape Verde island, killing 25 people

A bus carrying 32 passengers has fallen into a deep ravine on Fogo Island, Cape Verde, killing at least 25 people. The crash happened on Saturday evening on a steep mountain road in the north of Sao Filipe municipality. Most of the victims were teenagers and young students. The group had been visiting Cha das Caldeiras, a village inside a volcanic crater, and was on its way home. The driver organised the trip every year as a personal gift for students he drove during the school year. He also died in the crash. Seven bodies were buried quickly because of their condition. Investigators have not yet found the cause of the accident. The government has declared two days of national mourning.
