Brooklyn resident moves to Long Island for larger home and yard space

A Brooklyn resident recently left New York City for Nassau County on Long Island, swapping a small one-bedroom flat for a house nearly three times the size. In Brooklyn, $500,000 would buy around 675 square feet of living space. In Nassau County, the same money purchased a three-bedroom home with 2,000 square feet and a garden. The move brought clear benefits, including lower stress and better access to parks and green spaces. However, the shift from city to suburb involves real trade-offs. Only 11 percent of Long Island residents live in walkable neighbourhoods, compared to 87 percent in New York City. Some people who have made similar moves to suburban areas reported feeling isolated at first and found it hard to meet people and build new social connections.
