British woman convicted of blackmail after false rape accusation in Hong Kong

A British woman has been sentenced to six years in prison in Hong Kong for blackmail and lying to police. Isabel Rose, 25, met a British banker while travelling in Thailand. She later visited him in Hong Kong in January 2024. Rose falsely told police he had raped her, then demanded money to stay quiet. The man first paid her £5,000, but she later asked for up to £100,000. Police arrested her two days after she made the rape report. The judge said Rose was "thoroughly dishonest" and that her rape claims were not true. She was found guilty in March 2024 and received her sentence in July. Rose had been held in Hong Kong on bail for more than two years while the case continued.
