British family of five moves to Bali to reduce living costs and improve lifestyle

A British family moved from Derbyshire to Bali in 2024, cutting their monthly costs by more than half. Joseph and Rebecca Oxley, both 37, sold their home for £390,000 and left the UK in February with their three children, who are educated at home. They arrived in Bali in April and now rent a villa with a private pool for around £600 a month. Their total monthly spending has dropped from £4,543 to £1,760. The couple had talked about relocating abroad for years but kept putting it off. The turning point came when Rebecca received a worrying health diagnosis, which pushed them to finally act. Joseph works for himself in telecommunications. The family previously described their life in England as exhausting, with high expenses and little time together.
