Bomb found in car stopped near Irish border

Irish police have stopped a car and found a bomb inside it. The incident happened on Wednesday on a road near Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. The driver, Isobella Perrie Sullivan, is a 25-year-old law student. Officers from a specialist Garda unit intercepted her vehicle and discovered the device in a bag on the back seat. Experts from the Irish Defence Forces examined it and confirmed it could explode. It contained a detonator, a timing unit, and what is believed to be Semtex plastic explosive. Police think the bomb was going to be taken into Northern Ireland. A second person, a man in his 40s, was also arrested. Sullivan appeared in court on Friday and was charged with possessing explosives. She was released on bail, with a €15,000 surety condition.
