Boat capsizes in New York Harbor, killing woman and infant

A boat carrying fourteen people overturned near Liberty Island in New York Harbor late on Saturday night. Two people died: a 27-year-old woman and a baby girl aged five months. Both were taken to hospital but could not be saved. Twelve others were pulled from the water with minor injuries. A tour boat that was passing helped rescue most of the survivors. The boat's operator, Manuel Hernandez, 46, was arrested. He faces thirteen counts of reckless endangerment. Police and other agencies, including the Coast Guard and fire department, responded to the scene. Investigators are now looking into whether the vessel was being used as an illegal charter. The relationship between the woman and the infant has not been confirmed.
