Bayeux Tapestry travels to British Museum for first time in centuries

The Bayeux Tapestry will travel to the British Museum in London, where it will be on display from September 2026 to July 2027. This is the first time the tapestry has been in England for around 900 years.

The tapestry is about 70 metres long and tells the story of the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Historians believe it was made in England in the 1070s, but it has been kept in Bayeux, France, for centuries.

France and the United Kingdom agreed to the loan after high-level diplomatic talks between the two countries. The tapestry is important to both nations because it records a moment that changed English history forever.
