Bank of England governor warns G20 that AI cyber attacks pose greatest financial risk

Andrew Bailey, head of the Bank of England, warned G20 finance ministers on August 31 that AI is now the biggest short-term danger to the world's financial system. He wrote to the ministers in a letter explaining his concerns.

Bailey said AI allows cyber attackers to work faster and at a much larger scale than before. He also warned that many countries do not yet have the right systems to control powerful AI tools safely.

He raised another concern about banks and financial firms. Many of them depend on just a few technology companies, which could cause serious problems if something goes wrong.
