Aviva completes turnaround under Amanda Blanc's leadership since 2020

Amanda Blanc has turned Aviva into one of Britain's strongest insurance companies since becoming CEO in July 2020. She took over after the previous leader left early because of a family illness.

Blanc's plan had two stages. First, she sold businesses that did not fit Aviva's main goals and cut the company's debts. Then she moved into growth. In December 2024, Aviva bought Direct Line for £3.7 billion. This deal gave Aviva about one fifth of the UK car insurance market.

Technology has also changed how the company works. Aviva now uses machine learning to assess risk on 98% of its personal insurance products. The company sees further opportunities in Canada and the Lloyd's insurance market.
