Australian woman makes contact after Nepal flooding disaster

An Australian hiker reported missing after deadly floods in Nepal has contacted her family. Cara Severino, 25, was walking the Langtang trek when flash floods hit the China-Nepal border on Wednesday. She became stranded at a location away from the floodwaters. On Friday morning, she called her parents from Gosainkunda to say she was safe. She is now walking to Kathmandu with a group of Nepali hikers. The journey is more than 110 kilometres on foot. Severino is the first of 39 missing Australians to be confirmed safe. The floods have killed at least 469 people, and more than 1,400 are still missing. Several Australian families have not yet heard from their relatives, including a family of four from Sydney.
