Arizona faces water cuts from Colorado River drought crisis

The Trump administration has ordered water cuts for Arizona, California, and Nevada because the Colorado River is running low. Arizona will lose the most water. Decades ago, Arizona accepted lower-priority water rights so the federal government would pay for a large canal system called the Central Arizona Project. That agreement means Arizona is first to lose water when supplies fall. The canal brings water to Phoenix, the largest desert city in the United States. Cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Tucson also depend on the river. In the driest years, some areas could lose their supply completely. Millions of people across the southwest could face serious water shortages if drought conditions continue.
