Alexander Zverev wins US Open tennis championship

Alexander Zverev won the US Open men's singles title on Sunday, beating American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2. The match lasted three hours and 33 minutes.

Zverev was nearly perfect on his first serve in the opening two sets. He won 39 of 42 points behind it and did not face a break point until the third set. Shelton, the eighth seed and a crowd favourite, took that set but could not stop the German after that.

This was Zverev's second Grand Slam title of 2026. He also won Roland Garros earlier this year. Before 2026, he had lost all three of his Grand Slam finals. He is only the fourth man ever to win his first two Slam titles in the same year.
