Actor Neal McDonough avoids rewatching his Yellowstone performances

Actor Neal McDonough has said he never watches himself on screen. McDonough, who is 60, played villain Malcolm Beck in six episodes of Yellowstone's second season. Beck was a cruel and powerful businessman. McDonough uses method acting, a style where actors deeply feel their character's emotions during filming. He says that watching his performances brings back the painful mental state he was in while shooting. This makes the experience very difficult for him. He has avoided rewatching his own work for around 20 years. He explained that he can remember exactly what he was thinking and feeling in each scene. Because those memories are so strong, seeing the footage again feels traumatic rather than rewarding.
