Actor Matthew Lillard expresses regret over Scream 7 participation following costar's firing

Actor Matthew Lillard has said he feels ashamed that he joined Scream 7 after his co-star Melissa Barrera was fired from the film. He made these comments at a Q&A event, months after the movie came out.

Barrera lost her role because she posted criticism of Israel on social media during the Gaza conflict. Director Christopher Landon and actress Jenna Ortega also left the production after she was removed.

Lillard returned to play Stu Macher, a character he first played in the 1996 original. He admitted he did not think about Barrera's situation when he accepted the role. He now believes she "was on the right side of history" and that more people should have supported her.
